About Me

Welcome to notions, a place for all of my passions to come together.

My name is Megan, and I have thoughts. Sometimes it feels like so many ideas fill my head that it’s hard to keep them all straight. I’ve always been that way, getting so excited that I can’t help myself. I can’t stop thinking about it. So here it is…

I think that buying books and reading books are two different hobbies. I just happen to love both. I’ve always been a big reader, and last year I took the next step by getting a part-time job at a local book store called The Briar Patch. My favorite genre is romance, but I read just about everything. I write reviews through Goodreads, NetGalley, and Edelweiss. I’ve also started a romance book club through The Briar Patch, called Hoppily Ever After, where we meet once a month to talk about our latest read.

Next up we have crafts. Like, I just want to get together with all my friends to do arts and crafts. Is that so wrong? My grandmother taught me how to knit and crochet when I was a kid, and I picked it up off and on over the years.

As with many things, 2020 brought me back to the yarn world. I started an Instagram and started following designers, signing up for pattern tests, and overwhelming myself with all the things I wanted to make. But more than yarn, I think all fiber arts fascinate me. You can make beautiful art from fabric, put together as a quilt. Embroidery designs always catch my eye. I just want to make them all!

My third focus is on fashion, specifically plus-sized fashion. I spent 13 years working for a large fashion retailer, and if there’s one thing I learned, it’s that every body is different.
Let me say that louder for the people in the back…EVERY BODY IS DIFFERENT. I spent years comparing the ways that clothes fit me versus the other girls I worked with. Some girls could look amazing in anything, and I felt like I had my thing that was the only thing that worked with my body type.

But if I learned one thing, it’s this…
It’s ok to have your own style, and your favorite pieces. But it’s also ok to try something new. It’s ok to wear a crop top, even if your body isn’t perfect. Wear what you like. Don’t wear what you don’t like just because you think you should.

And another thing…clothes should fit. I know, right? Seems like an obvious statement, but the reality is that a lot of fashion brands don’t make clothes that fit the average American woman. We deserve clothes that fit too. I want to help people find things that fit, or adapt them to work better for you. Or maybe even create your own wardrobe! The possibilities could be endless.

Anyway, that’s my soapbox for today. My thoughts and ideas, bits and pieces.
My notions. Hope you’ll join me for more.
